The proposed regulations would have required Houston auto repair, auto body, auto and storage shop owners as well as auto dealers to hire more staff to file more paperwork and acquire and keep written approval from customers for bids prior to work being done, no matter the inconvenience on those, such as seniors, who might not have access to a fax or transportation to deliver the authorization, etc. Our shop space would have been kept tied up and our customers' repair work delayed while waiting for paperwork. City inspectors would have been able to randomly enter neighborhood repair shops and issue misdemeanor violation citations with fines of $500 or more for each repair that did not have a signed work authorization on file, or for any typographical error on file. Insurance companies would have been established as authorized agents who would mandate where the consumer would take their vehicle.
City Council Member Helena Brown helped fight against this bad policy, and she will keep fighting for our shops and our customers, but it is up to us to keep her in office by supporting her re-election this year. So we are asking every shop owner to join us in financially supporting this important campaign, standing with Council Member Brown as she continues to fight for us. Please make your personal, sole proprietor, or partnership check (no corporate checks) to Helena Brown Campaign and if you are able call Michael at 281-919-3577 so that he can pick-up your contribution this week before the mid-year campaign finance report is due.
